Funding an Author Visit to Your Elementary School
Bring a Writer to Your Classroom – with Funding from The Writers’ Union of Canada!
Looking to spark a love of reading and writing in your students? Through the Writers-in-the-Schools (WITS) program, Ontario schools can host published Canadian authors for engaging classroom visits — with funding support from The Writers’ Union of Canada and the Ontario Arts Council.
Authors receive a $300 honorarium per session, and schools get to offer a meaningful literary experience with no out-of-pocket cost. Whether it’s a virtual workshop or an in-person storytelling session, WITS connects young readers with the creators behind the books they love.
✅ Teachers: Find a participating author at writersunion.ca
✅ Writers: Apply for funding through your TWUC member portal
