What It's Really Like to Work With Me as Your Writing Coach
Writing Doesn't Have to Feel So Difficult
You know what you want to write, but when you try to put it on paper, it never seems to come out quite right. You know you have a story in you that needs to come out, but you never seem to find the time to write it down. You bounce around from one idea to another because you're not sure if any of them are really good enough.
If you are guilt-tripping yourself for not publishing your book five years ago, you are not alone. Many of my writers come to me for support because they have big goals, but they're not sure how to make them happen. They've been struggling for years alone, with thoughts of self doubt, or lack of accountability to meet their goals.
You are not alone anymore. As your coach I will walk by your side through the writing process, helping you uncover your message and make it stand out. Together we will develop your confidence to put your story on paper, and when you are ready, to share it with the world.
I Meet You Where You Are At
We start with a free strategy call. This is our opportunity to get to know each other and to discover if we are the right fit to work together. It also gives me the chance to get to know you, your project, and where you need support. Whether this is your first book or fifth, I adjust my program to meet you where you are at.
Once we begin the program we have a 2 hour strategy call to dig into the what and why of your project. We dig into the message you want to share, how your book will connect with your business, and your goals. I write you a customized plan following that call to help you write the book that you need to write.
My Program is Customized
I always customize my program based on your goals. As your coach, my goal is to bring out the best in you. I ask you thought provoking questions (because let's face it, the questions matter more than the answers). I help you find the angle that you want to focus on. I support your timeline and publishing goals. I keep you on track with consistent coaching calls. I am there for you when you have questions or get stuck.
I don't judge. I don't care if your first draft is riddled with errors, I will never hand it back covered in red ink. I don't expect perfection. I don't tell you how to write. I am simply here to guide you. Because you are the expert in your field of knowledge, and I want your words to shine in your style and voice.
We Build an Original Book
Your book will be entirely yours. We build your outline and writing plan from scratch based on the most important concept or takeaway that you want your reader to learn. We build the whole book around that concept, so that your story remains unique but also focused and clear.
This is not a cookie cutter program.
We Untangle the Thinking Before We Polish the Writing
I like to say that half of writing a book is actually thinking of the ideas and concepts. We take the time to develop your thoughts so that writing can flow seamlessly. As you define exactly what you need to write, the book begins to fall into place.
My goal for your first draft is to get all of the concepts on paper. It doesn't have to be perfect, and it's OK if it doesn't make a lot of sense (as long as it makes sense to you). Our first draft is kind of like a lump of clay. It gives us something to shape and mold, so once your first draft is on paper the magic really starts to happen!
I keep you on track
We have coaching calls about every other week throughout my program. These calls give you the chance to come to me with your questions, and get some live feedback. They also serve to keep you on track. You know that I am on the edge of my seat waiting for your next chapter to drop in my inbox, so you will get it done.
You'll Surprise Yourself
We're not just working on writing skills when you book coaching with me. As you write your book you will become more knowledgeable and more confident in your knowledge. You will start to feel like that expert author long before you are ready to press publish.
And the words will flow faster too. The first couple of chapters often take the longest. You are still really solidifying your ideas and getting used to the way words flow on paper. But after that you will notice that the words come with less and less effort.
By the time you're done with your book, you really will feel like the expert who "wrote the book on that."
You'll Leave With Skills, Not Just Finished Pieces
In my coaching program I teach you skills that you will use for the rest of your life. You will have a format and formula for any future books you write. You will also develop organizational skills, storytelling skills, and grit. My lessons are mindset oriented, because I believe that when we level up the way we think, it levels up the things we can achieve.
My program includes access to 27 training sessions about writing. That access does not expire after my program ends, so you can circle back around to those lessons at any time.
What Our Sessions Actually Look Like
Our first call together is a 2 hour deep dive into the what and why of your book. My goal is to help you identify where this book belongs in your life or your business. In that session we make a customized plan for your publishing goals.
After that we start the writing process, which usually takes about 6 months. We continue to meet for 30 minute call during this 6 month time period. I encourage you to send me your writing before these calls so that I can come into the call prepared to talk about your ongoing project. During the call you have the opportunity to ask me questions so that I can help you plan, write, and polish your book. Sometimes we go through your writing so that I can give you some live feedback, or sometimes I go over a specific writing topic with you. Each call is different and depends on your needs.
I recommend meeting every other week, but the package includes 10 calls that you can use at any time within the 6 month program. That means if you need to take a few weeks off on vacation, you can always reschedule your calls for a later date. Or if you need an extra call early in the program because you're feeling stuck that can be accommodated as well.
In between calls you have access to me by email support. That way if you need eyes on your work during the week you can send it over.
